Welcome to Kids Hearts. My Name is Michelle Carr, I am a Consultant Paediatric and Fetal Cardiologist working in London. My NHS practice is based at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London. Great Ormond Street cardiology unit has access to the best of paediatric interventional cardiologists and cardiac surgeons and to the best facilities in the UK. Together we are dedicated to achieving the best possible outcomes from every patient— as well as providing long-term support for every family.
I specialise in the diagnosis, treatment and on-going care of a full spectrum of heart disease affecting babies still in the womb to young adults (including holes in the heart such as ASD’s and VSD’s, child chest pain, valve problems and all complex forms of structural heart disease).
Congenital heart disease describes a range of birth defects that affect the normal workings of the heart. It can affect 8 in every 1000 babies born. Symptoms are noticeable soon after birth, although mild defects may not cause any problems until later in life. If there are concerning symptoms a referral is usually made to a paediatric cardiologist for further evaluation.
If you have a child with a heart problem or concerns regarding a possible cardiac issue and are considering the private care, I welcome any enquiries and I can be contacted by email, or via my practice manager . |
Michelle Carr
I am a Consultant Fetal and Paediatric Cardiologist. I qualified as a doctor in 2000, from University College Hospital Dublin, Ireland. In 2003, I became a Member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, Ireland and completed specialist training in Paediatrics in 2008. I completed a fellowship in paediatric cardiology in Children’s Hospital Boston from 2008-2011 and a further year of subspecialty paediatric cardiac imaging, including fetal echocardiography in Childrens hospital, Colorado 2011-12.
I was appointed a consultant paediatric cardiologist and took up my current NHS post at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London, in June 2012. In terms of child heart surgery, the department is the largest in the UK. I have an interest in echocardiography, including fetal echocardiography. Together with my cardiology colleagues, we provide a full programme of cardiology care for baby’s and children.
My private practice is based at the Harris International Patient Centre at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Following a detailed assessment and diagnosis, a individualised care plan is created that will act as clear pathway of referral to a range of specialties that may include interventional procedures (day-case, key–hole procedures) or child heart surgery if indicated.
